Indochina Tour – 22 Days

Day 1: Arrive in Hanoi 

Flight: International flight on your own arrangement or on requests. The journey through 4 countries of Indochina: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand starts now!

Welcome to Vietnam! The land of unique culture and stunning natural view.

Upon your arrival, your local tour guide will welcome you at the airport then escort you to hotel with private car. Check in hotel and relax.

A welcome dinner with traditional Vietnamese music will give you a first taste of Vietnamese cuisine and their culture.

Day 2 Hanoi City Tour—Discover the capital city of Vietnam

Hanoi, capital of Vietnam with oriental style old buildings, luxuriant trees along street, local market, motor-bikes, etc, A city tour in Hanoi will give you the first impression of oriental culture.

In the city tour, you will visit the Hochiminh Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology or Vietnam History Museum, Hoan Kiem Lake and a Cyclo tour around the Old quarter of Hanoi.

Finish your day at the Thang Long Opera Theatre for a traditional Vietnamese water puppet show.

Day 3 Full Day Halong Bay Cruise 

Start at 8:00 am with private transfer to Halong City. Upon arrival, you will board the cruise ship for a relaxing Halong Bay Cruise through the stunning Halong Bay. You could be absolutely relax by lying down on the sun deck to enjoy the beautiful scenery and sunshine. A shore excursion will bring you to discover a beautiful cave, visit a local fishing village with opportunity to interact with local people.

When the sun become a drop of burning gold that slid nearer the sea horizon, enjoy your dinner while enjoying a charming sunset.

Day 4 Half Day Halong Bay Cruise, Flight to Hoian 

Greeting by the morning sun rise from the sea horizon, you can join a Thai Chi lesson for some morning exercise before breakfast. Visit a limestone grotto in the morning and disembark around 11:00 am then transfer to airport for onward flight to Danang.

Upon arriving Danang, you will be pick up and transfer to hotel in Hoian (about 30 minutes drive). Check in hotel and overnight in Hoian.

Day 5 Full Day My Son Heritage, Hoian Ancient Town 

Visit the My Son Sanctuary in the morning to discover the ruined temple which was built in the 4th century. When drive back to Hoian, visit the historical Hoian Ancient Town including the colorful local market, the Tan Ky Old House, Fukien Assembly Hall and the 400-year-old Japanese Covered Bridge. You can also visit the local residents raising silk worms and producing silk for Hoi An’s burgeoning textile industry.

In the evening, the local people will hang up the red lanterns, it will give you the feeling of traveling back to ancient time.

Day 6 Hoian—Relax on the Beach 

Hoian is also famous for its beautiful sandy beach. Today you will relax and enjoy sunshine and the beach.

If you want some fun activities today, we highly recommend you to join a fishing tour to experience being a local fishman or go diving in Cham Island.

Day 7 Arrive in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Half Day City Tour 

Enjoy free time in the morning until transfer to Danang airport for onward flight to Saigon. Upon arrival Saigon, you will meet your local guide in Saigon who will escort you to the hotel.

In the afternoon, explore Saigon and its famous attractions such as Thien Hao Pagoda, the former Presidential Palace, the War Remnants Museum.

Day 8 Full Day My Tho (Bentre)—Discover Mekong Delta 

Enjoy a full day tour from Saigon to My Tho to discover the Mekong River Delta, which is widely known as the ‘rice bowl’ of Vietnam. You will take a private boat tour through the water coconut forest to center of Mekong Delta, enjoy a biking tour (about 1 hour) to discover the villages and a sampan trip through the narrow canals.

Transfer back to Saigon in the afternoon.

Day 9 Cu Chi Tunnels & Cooking Class 

Visit the Cu Chi Tunnels in the morning. On the way back to Saigon, you will stop by an organic farm where you can pick up organic vegetables and join a cooking class to learn to cook some famous Vietnamese food. Lunch will be arranged there by your own dishes in the cooking class.

When drive back to Saigon, enjoy some relaxing time by yourself. In the evening, a cruise dinner to enjoy the beautiful night scenery of Saigon on the Mekong River would be a farewell to this beautiful oriental city.

Day 10 Arrive in Siem Reap, Half Day Angkor Wat 

Angkor Wat—Impressed by the magnificent temple of Angkor Wat.

Enjoy free time until transfer to the airport for your onward flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival in Siem Reap, you will be welcomed by our local guide at the airport then escort to hotel. After check in and a short rest, your private guide will escort you to discover the world’s wonder site—Angkor Wat, the magnificent temple was built in 12th century and it is the largest first Hindu, Buddhist temple complex and the largest religious monument in the world. On your way back to Siem Reap, enjoy the sunset from the top of the pyramid-shaped temple of Pre Rup.

Day 11 Full Day Angkor Thom & Ta Prohm Temple 

After breakfast, the cool weather and less traffic is perfect for you to travel in a Tuk Tuk to visit the ancient city Angkor Thom which was the last and most enduring capital city of the Khmer empire. The tour in Angkor Thom will starts from the South Gate and walk along the ancient city wall to see the lost temple of Prasat Chroung then continue to the Bayon temple where you will be surrounded by 216 gigantic stone faces known as “smile of Angkor”.  You will also visit the Terrace of the Elephants, the Royal Palace and the Terrace of the Leper King.

When the weather gets hot, your driver will pick you up and you can enjoy air-condition and cold drinks inside your private car while transferring you to Temple of Ta Prohm which is widely known as “lost to the jungle temple”.

Day 12 Full Day Tonle Sap Lake, Kompong Phluk 

In the morning, visit a half day excursion to the biggest Southeast Asia’s largest fresh water lake—Tonle Sap Lake. You will firstly enjoy a fun ox cart ride through the countryside, continue to have a boat trip to enjoy the beautiful lake view and mangrove forest on the lake, then spend rest of the morning at the largest village on the lake which is called Kompong Phluk, to discover the fascinating daily lives of the local people who leave on the water.

Rest of the day is at leisure for you to relax.

Day 13 Flight to Vientiane 

Free at leisure until transfer to airport for departure to Vientiane.

Upon arrival in Vientiane airport, your private local guide from IndochinaTour.com will welcome you at the airport then escort you to your hotel in Vientiane City.

Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure to relax, you can have a relaxing walk around the hotel to discover the city or stroll along the river bank to enjoy sunset.

Day 14 Full Day Vientiane City Tour 

Vientiane, the charming capital city of Laos with rich heritage of Buddhist culture, is waiting for you to discover.

You full day city tour will take you to visit the highlights of Vientiane. Your will firstly get to know some more history of Laos by visiting the National Museum, then visit the temple Wat Sisaket which is the oldest surviving temple with thousands of Buddhist images. The temple Wat Prakeo which houses the famous Emerald Buddha image really amazed the Indochina tour makers. Your full day Vientiane city tour will also take you to the symbolic site That Luang Stupa and Patuxay Monument.

The rest of the day is free at your leisure.

Day 15 Flight to Luang Prabang 

Today you will continue your amazing Indochina Tour in Laos from Vientiane to Luang Prabang.

Enjoy relaxing time in the morning until transfer you to the airport for onward flight to Luang Prabang. Upon arrival in Luang Prabang, you will meet your private local guide from Indochinatour.com and escort you to hotel.

Rest of the day is at leisure. In the evening, you can wander around the city and the night market to discover local life of Luang Prabang.

Day 16 Kuang Si Waterfalls, Half Day City Tour 

Luang Prabang, the city surrounded by Mekong River and well known as the golden city, is popular for its beautiful decorated Buddhist temples. It is a place that you will keep appearing in your mind for long time after your Indochina tour.

Your memorable trip will starts from partaking in an alms ritual in the morning, you will accept the blessing by monks who you give the alms. Have breakfast in the hotel and then start the half day excursion to Kuang Si Waterfalls, where you will enjoy beautiful natural scenery, have fun in waterfalls and relax.

Drive back to the town for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the Wat Xiengthong which is symbolic temple of the classic Laotian architecture, visit the Royal Palace Museum to learn some history of Laos. Then visit the Wat Aham Temple which means “Monastery of the Opened Heart” and the Stupa of Wat Visoun.

Day 17 2 Days Mekong River Crusie & Pak Ou Cave 

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today, you will embark on the Luang Say boat for a 2 days cruise to Huay Xai, the small town locates at the border of Laos and Thailand, you will proceed to Chiang Rai in Thailand from the border pass there.

The trip will start at 7:00am, you will enjoy a continental breakfast while cruising to the Pak Ou Village which locates at the mouth of the Nam Ou River. You will have a shore excursion to visit the Tam Thing Caves of Thousand Buddhas.

Lunch will be a buffet on board and the boat will keep cruising upstream the Mekong River to a hill tribe village where you can watch the traditional process of Lao whisky production.

Our boat will stop at Pak Beng around sunset and check in Luang Say Lodge for overnight. Dinner will be arrange on the Luang Say Lodge’s terrace restaurant with a view of the Mekong River.

Day 18 Full Day Cruising to Chiang Rai, Thailand

Enjoy breakfast at the Luang Say Lodge, then board the boat at 7:00am and keep cruising toward upper stream of the Mekong River. En route, you will stop to visit a local village to witness the rural life along the Mekong River and visit the Minority ethnic people. Lunch will be buffet served on board and you will arrive at Huay Xai around 5:00 p.m. Go through the board and you will be welcomed by your local guide on the Thailand side of the border who then escorts you to your hotel in Chiang Rai.

Day 19 Half Day Chiang Rai City Tour 

After breakfast and check out from hotel, we will drive to visit Opium House at bent of the mighty Maekhong River and see the scenery view of three countries (Thailand, Myanmar and Laos).  Visit ancient city of Chiang Saen where ruins of numerous temples, stupas, Buddha images are still to be seen, and visit National Museum where artifacts and archaeological finds are exhibited.

Lunch at a local restaurant and transfer back to hotel in Chiang Rai.

Day 20 Full Day Discover Golden Triangle

The golden triangle is a mysterious region for most of Indochina tour makers, today you will enjoy a full day excursion to the heart of golden triangle region.

Your fascinating day will start from morning by firstly visit the Long Neck Karen village to see the long neck hill tribe people who relocated from the Thai and Myanmar border. If it is possible, you will also able to visit a Cock Fighting near the hill tribe village. Keep driving to Mt. Doi Mae Salong and visit the Chinese village on the top of the mountain. Lunch will be at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, continue the trip to the highest peak on the Thai-Myanmar border. Doi Tung, provides an opportunity to view enrooted many different Lahu and Akha village as well as terraced farming areas and see from distance the Princess Mother’s frigid flower Garden.  Doi Tung temple, built in A.D.1493, is located at the peak. Its scenery reminds Switzerland features but has many unique images and temple architecture overlooking the entire northern rice field plain.  Return to the hotel and rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 21 Transfer to Chiang Mai by Private car, Charity School Visit 

Enjoy some relaxing time in the hotel until your tour guide pick you from hotel for driving to Chiang Mai, Thailand. In the morning, we will drive about 2.5 hours to Chiang Mai. Before you arrive in Chiang Mai, you will stop to visit the White Temple which is a fascinating temple with amazing designs and beautiful sculptures.

Before you arrive in Chiang Mai, you will stop to visit a charity school—School For Life co-founded with Berlin Free University, it is a children’s village offers free education, accommodation and medical care to children with difficult background. It is highly appreciated by UNESCO. Here you will enjoy a cooking lesson with Children to learn how to cook local Thail Food, lunch will be the food you cook and enjoy it with children there. After that, you will enjoy some free time to discover the beautiful countryside around the School for Life Campus. After check in your hotel, enjoy the rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 22 Departure from Chiang Mai 

Enjoy relaxing time in the morning until transfer to airport for onward flight to your sweet home or to next destination of your Indochina tour. Our tour through 4 countries of Indochina: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand ends here, see you again!
